President Rodrigo Duterte, who has constantly declared his loathing of illegal drugs and those who dabble in it, met with Cebuano businessman Peter Lim on Friday.
Peter Lim voluntarily met with Duterte to let him know that he is not the “Peter Lim” identified in Duterte’s list of biggest drug lords in the country.
Lim declared his support for the President’s war on drugs, saying, “I’m with you all the way, Mr. President… I could clear up everything because my family is really in deep problem now in Cebu…In any way I will help.”
Duterte was sympathetic in his response, he said, “We want to help you… help us clear you.”
But when Lim expressed his desire to help in eradicating illegal drugs, Duterte responded, “Sorry, I cannot save you.”
Duterte advised Lim to cooperate, go to the NBI, and subject himself to an investigation to clear his name.
Malacañang released the video and transcript of Duterte’s meeting with Lim. You can read it here.
We laud the President for being so open to people who want to clear their name. However, vigilantes and some policemen seem to be harder to talk to, as proven by the spate of drug-related killings.
