He has yet to file his Certificate of Candidacy for President but Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte might as well be running for the highest office in the land — what with other candidates seeking or benefiting from his endorsement.

“On Sun, Nov 8, Duterte fended off criticisms against former Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Francis Tolentino, whose senatorial candidacy he is endorsing,” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.

In his local radio show in Davao, Duterte vouched for Tolentino’s personality and work ethic. He said, “Matagal ko nang kilala si Francis (I have known Francis for a long time). And he’s one of the most decent officials in the country.”

Duterte added: “This guy has remained poor. He lives a very simple life. I do not have to compare him with anybody but he is an entity by himself.”

The report noted: “Duterte also downplayed the controversial performance of an all-female group allegedly hired by Tolentino for a Liberal Party (LP) event in Laguna. Duterte said the ‘raunchy’ performance of the group PlayGirls was just a form of entertainment, noting that Tolentino displayed decency in resigning as MMDA chairman after the scandal.”

Duterte pointed out: “He resigned because doon sa raucous show which they said was lewd, which to me is what we do every election time, just to entertain people.”
