Cool and laidback Dumaguete City, with its steady university town vibe, diving spots, and delicious food, recently topped the must-visit list among young Chinese travelers.
In its latest data study, accommodations booking site Agoda.com was astounded to see that in 2015, there was a whopping 805% increase in bookings to the 73 listed properties in the Negros Oriental capital, compared to 2014 .
And what do they come here for, you may ask? Well, unlike their tour guide-dependent parents, these young and independent Chinese travelers strike it out on their own, planning their whale-watching cruises and diving excursions.
Dumaguete has long been a must-visit for cool and laidback travelers. The seaside Rizal Boulevard, Silliman University, silvanas, Apo Island with its photobombing turtles — are among the very many reasons to check the city in the Visayas.
It’s the only Philippine city to make it to the list dominated by Japan and Thailand.
