Well, at least he made use of the shirt in some way?
Twitter user @alfreddygutz, who only wants to be identified as Alfie, shared a now-viral video of him on Monday showing his disapproval for former special assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go’s senatorial campaign.
How exactly did he express this? He did it by throwing one of Go’s campaign shirts to the ground, turning it into a mat for his bag, and recording the whole thing.
Not subtle at all.
“[I’ll just] share [with you guys] the trapo that we got for free in La Union from Bong Gago,” he wrote in the caption.
Trapo literally means rag in Filipino but it also means “traditional politician” or someone who is “perceived as belonging to a conventional and corrupt ruling class,” according to the Oxford Dictionary.
“Gago,” on the other hand, means “asshole.”

In the video, Go is seen distributing his campaign shirts while inside a vehicle. Alfie runs up to the car and repeatedly says in Filipino, “me too,” pretending to be excited to get one.
After getting a shirt, Alfie walks away and says in the video: “I got a trapo.”
The video then cuts to the shirt on the ground with bags placed on top of it. “Ulol (Crazy),” Alfie says in the video as he places another bag on the tee.
Alfie shared with Coconuts Manila that it happened on Sunday while he and his friends were waiting for a bus going to Manila.
“Suddenly there was some sort of commotion. Turns out it was Bong Go handing out shirts… with a military convoy,” he said.
“We wanted to put them (our bags) down because they were heavy and we were 200th in line [for the bus]. But no one had a big cloth where we could put our bags,” he said in a mix of English and Filipino. He shared that Go arrived just in time so he ran to his car to get one.
He said that the shirt was still with him when they finally got a ride going home, but when they got to Manila, it was gone.
“[It] must’ve fallen in one of the stopovers,” he said.
“I didn’t expect it (the video) would blow up like this, it was just a gag but I guess a lot of people feel the same way towards him and his early campaign,” he said.
The campaign period for those running for national positions in May’s mid-term elections will run from Feb. 12 until May 11. Those running for local positions, on the other hand, can campaign from March 30 to May 11. Election day is on May 13.
While premature campaigning is no longer an election offense, it is still frowned upon.
The video had over 210,000 views, 9,600 likes, and 1,600 retweets as of this article’s posting.
Netizens had mixed reactions to it.
Others didn’t find it amusing, saying that he could’ve given the shirt to someone who could’ve used it.
“I wish you just gave the shirt to others so they could still use it! Instead of you throwing and turning it into a rag. Let’s not be annoying. It’s already the new year,” said @josephFIS.
Sana binigay mo n lng saniba ung shirt para pwede p nilang magamit! Kesa nman itatapon mo lng at gagawing basahan! Sana wag tayong pa epal! Bagong taon n po! Baguhin ang ugali…….
