There have been tons of variations of the “This is my voice” challenge but this guy just took it to a new level when he nailed a spot-on impression of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte.
The challenge originated from the Tik Tok app and has people recording themselves showing how their accents “change” (they don’t really) because of a certain place.
Pinoys like Facebook user Josh Anciano have jumped aboard the new trend to deliver netizens some laughs.
Anciano shared his now-viral challenge video on Tuesday. In it, he pretends to be in the presidential palace Malacañang.
“There, let’s jump on the [new] trend. I probably can’t be shot for this,” he wrote in Filipino.
In the video, he first shows himself in front of a mirror and says, “Yo, what’s up, this is my voice a day in Malacañang.”
He then starts talking in Duterte’s Cebuano accent, saying, “Yo! This is my voice a month here in Malacañang.”
Duterte is from Davao City, a part of Mindanao island where Cebuano is the primary language. He usually mixes his speeches with English, Filipino, and Cebuano.
By the end of the bit, Anciano uses a mix of Cebuano and English: “Hala, naunsa (Oh no, what happened)? [This is what] happened to my voice a year in Malacañang [Palace].”
“My God, I hate drugs,” he quips before the video ends.
The 21-year-old told Coconuts Manila that he took the video at his workplace in Japan.
“The ‘[This is] my voice challenge’ is a bit trendy today so [I thought] why not try to do the same as well?”
He shared that he did the video for fun and was surprised that it went viral because he’s not really into voice impressions. “I only do Duterte’s voice to amaze my friends so I didn’t see this coming,” he shared.
“I’m still overwhelmed since this is the first time one of my videos went viral,” he added.
The video had over 63,000 views and 470 shares as of this article’s posting. Netizens thought it was pretty impressive.
“[This is] spot-on,” wrote James Coloma in Filipino.
