It’s been less than a week since the Luzon “enhanced” community quarantine started, but some Metro Manila residents are already experiencing cabin fever.
Exhibits A and B are Ronaldo Rio and Mary Rose Raguindin, Caloocan City residents who were arrested on Tuesday afternoon after they allegedly picked a fight with local government officials on 12th Avenue in Barangay (village) 68.
Romeo Giron, the village chief, said he and some officers were discussing among themselves how they planned to enforce the quarantine when Rio allegedly approached their group and screamed at them, The Philippine Daily Inquirer reports.

“What you’re doing is stupid!” Rio allegedly told Giron’s team. “I’m old, and I will never get infected by that virus!”
(Actually, old people tend to be at higher risk from coronavirus, but something tells us this dude isn’t super-interested in the facts.)
Giron and Rio ended up having an argument, with Rio becoming so enraged that he allegedly lashed out at the village official with his fists, Bombo Radyo reports.
Another village official named Tessie Galan saw the commotion and tried to stop Rio, at which point Raguindin allegedly jumped in and assaulted her as well.
Rio and Raguindin were arrested by the authorities and have been charged with violating Republic Act 11332 or the Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases and Health Events of Public Health Concern Act. They were also charged with disobedience to a person in authority and direct assault.
