After photos of a baby on a leash and fed from a doggie food bowl turned viral on social media Monday, the Department of Social Welfare and Development went on an overdrive to locate and rescue the boy.

Social workers found him on Tuesday in Orani, Bataan. He is estimated to be from 3-5 years old.

“Marilyn Tigas, head of DSWD provincial office in Bataan, said both child and mother will undergo psychological assessment,” reports Julie M. Aurelio on Inquirer.net.

While the child undergoes medical examination, his mother will get counseling. The government agency will also assess her parenting capabilities; DSWD says the mother clearly violated Republic Act 7610 or the Anti Child Abuse Law and the Anti-Violence against Women and Children Act.

“The rescue of the child came after social welfare secretary Corazon Soliman ordered the DSWD regional office in Central Luzon to track down the whereabouts of the mother, who uploaded photographs of the abuse on Facebook,” continues the report.

Why a certain Ayra dela Cruz would allegedly upload such a sick photo to the social network, we don’t know.

And as though the image wasn’t enough, it was made worse with its accompanying caption: “Bago ko nga palang alagang aso haha. Lakas ng tama ng anak ko sunod sunuran naman, dami kong tawa dito grabe.”
