DSWD may sue LGUs who allegedly hoarded relief goods

This is precisely why many volunteers in the Typhoon Yolanda relief operations just want to do things themselves.

“In a Nov 21 dzMM interview, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Dinky Soliman said that local government units found to be hoarding relief goods instead of immediately distributing them to Typhoon Yolanda victims may face charges,” reports Camille Diola on Philstar.com.

Pwede silang kasuhan kapag ganyan (We can file cases against them if that’s what’s happening),” stated Soliman. She added that DSWD staff will investigate the claims of hoarding in some parts of Leyte.

This issue is just one of the many “complications” that have developed in the aftermath of Typhoon Yolanda. As one survivor put it, “It’s not the typhoon that will kill you, it’s the obstacles you have to deal with once the typhoon is gone.”
