Who owns it?

“An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), more popularly known as a drone, was recently recovered by safety inspectors of the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) at the runway of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA),” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.

According to Homer Asunsion, MIAA safety inspector, that his team was alerted by maintenance personnel who were cutting grass near a portion of Runway 06-24.

The drone had no identification marks. It is now in the custody of the MIAA Safety Department.

The report noted: “Engineer Ric Medalla, MIAA Assistant General Manager for Operations, said the MIAA is now working with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) in identifying the owner.”

Gen. Rodante Joya, CAAP Deputy Director General for Operations, explained that “the drone owner violated the no-drone policy within the airport complex.”

Aside from the criminal liability, the owner could be fined with PHP300,000 to PHP500,000.

Joya said it is fortunate that the drone did not hit any aircraft near the runway.
