Driver injured after pick-up truck uncontrollably slid down hotel parking in Pasig City

A man is now suffering from injuries after his vehicle uncontrollably slid down a hotel building in Pasig City this morning.

Rocky P. Yabut, 30 years old, from Quezon City was on his way out of The Malayan Plaza’s second-floor parking area aboard a gray Ford Ranger pick-up truck when the incident happened at around 11:10am today.

Lt. Marie Bala of the Pasig City Police told Coconuts Manila that the driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle’s brakes, which was why it uncontrollably slid down the parking ramp that spirals down until it was out of the building.

“He was shocked when the brakes suddenly did not work,” Bala said in Filipino.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority has towed the wrecked truck.

The hotel’s pavement was damaged but no one else was hurt in the incident as Yabut was alone inside the pick-up. He fractured his left arm and left leg and is now undergoing X-rays at the Rizal Medical Center, also in Pasig City.

Authorities are still investigating what caused the vehicle’s brakes to malfunction.
