A sudden downpour on Tue night, Sep 8, left thousands of motorists and commuters stranded for several hours across Metro Manila.
The thunderstorm struck parts of Metro Manila, Bulacan, Quezon province, Pampanga, Bataan , Cavite, Batangas, and Rizal.
Floods left many roads impassable and eight hours later, at past 2am on Wed, Sep 9, many on their way home were still on the road across Metro Manila.
People were stuck for hours along C-5 road, EDSA, Skyway, Osmena Highway, South Superhighway, and even the Quezon Memorial Circle and Commonwealth, Katipunan, Marcos Highway, and Taft Avenue.
Commuters who were stranded at PHILCOA and Commonwealth waited hours but the buses and jeeps on the road were full.
Buses were full to bursting, seats and standing room occupied, with doors thrown open to accomodate more people.
Vehicular accidents along Elliptical road in Quezon City, as well as on C-5, directly contributed to the traffic gridlock.
While the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has yet to issue a statement on the Tue night gridlock, PAGASA said in an advisory that the public should expect sudden thunderstorms until early October. (with reports from Primy Cane and Carolyn Bonquin, ABS-CBN News)
