MANILA, Philippines – Talk ‘N Text fought Rain or Shine to the finish and fashioned out a thrilling 121-119 victory in double overtime on Wednesday to take the 2015 PBA Commissioner’s Cup title.
After trailing for most part of the game, the Elasto Painters battled their way back in the fourth quarter and forced an overtime with a 97-all deadlock.
The two teams figured in another sudden death when the first overtime ended 106-all.
But Rain or Shine ran out of steam in the second game extension.
Ranidel De Ocampo paced Talk ‘N Text with 34 points and 7 rebounds, while Ivan Johnson, who suffered bruises late in the fourth, tallied 30 points to go with his 11 rebounds.
It was a crushing loss for Rain or Shine, which hasn’t won a title since the 2012 Governor’s Cup.
The loss also ruined Paul Lee’s 38-point explosion. Wayne Chism had 34 points, but was a non-factor during the second overtime.
According to the PBA statistics office, it was the first final Game 7 in PBA history wherein the match reached two game extensions.
