“A proposal to temporarily shut down the Metro Rail Transit-3 has gotten the go signal from the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC),” reports Jacque Manabat on ABS-CBNnews.com.
According to MRT General Manager Roman Buenafe, his proposal to schedule a window time for rail replacement got the approval from DOTC Secretary Jun Abaya.
The report noted: “In Buenafe’s proposal, MRT operations will be stopped at 9pm on Sat and will resume at noon on Sun to make way for the rail replacement.”
The report explained: “What is hindering the rail replacement project is the lack of welding kits. Only three welding kits are available enough to repair one rail breakage. The MRT ordered 150 kits that should have been delivered on Friday, February 20. But since the delivery have not arrived yet, Buenafe has to move the scheduled temporary shutdown.”
The report went on to say that “once the welding kits are complete, Buenafe will implement the temporary shutdown of MRT operations.”
