DOST: PH will have free Wi-Fi by June

At the 41st Asia Pacific Advanced Network (APAN) conference in Pasay City, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Mario Go Montejo revealed the agency was aiming for the full roll out of the DOST’s free Wi-Fi Internet by June 2016.

“Montejo said that, for 2016, the free Wi-Fi (wireless fidelity) project worth PHP1.408 billion has received an increase in budget from PHP100 million to PHP200 million. Montejo said issues regarding the telecommunication companies’ concerns are now being addressed,” reports Edd K. Usman in Manila Bulletin.

The report noted: “The project involves putting up Wi-Fi Internet in public places nationwide aimed at bridging the digital divide,”
