DOST develops cheaper ‘guilt-free’ ice cream

Not that you should ever feel bad about eating ice cream but the Department of Science and Technology-Food and Nutrition Research Institute has developed an ice cream that has less than a gram of fat and less than 0.1 grams of sugar.

The “guilt-free” ice cream was developed by FNRI researchers Ma. Elena Fernandez, Wenefrida Lainez, and Dahlia Diaz, DOST said on its website.

A cup of the FNRI-developed ice cream has just 0.46 grams of fat against the 10.9 grams in commercial brands and it has less sugar too.

It is also cheaper to make, requiring just P1 million in capital. That includes the use of blast freezers meant to freeze food quickly.
