Call him the latest celebrity tax mascot.
“The Department of Justice (DOJ) has denied the request of actor-director Zoren Legaspi for more time to answer the PHP4.45-million tax evasion charge filed against him by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) last month,” reports Edu Punay in The Philippine Star.
Legaspi’s lawyer, Atty. Ricardo Revo, had asked the DOJ to move the deadline for submission of the counter-affidavit from June 6 to June 20 “because the celebrity has to attend to a personal matter in Tacloban City on that day.”
Unfortunately, investigating Assistant State Prosector Stewart Allan Mariano said no, pointing out that Legaspi had been given enough time to submit an answer to the BIR complaint.
In the May 28 hearing, Legaspi’s accountant Flora Capili cited “discrepancies” in Legaspi’s tax records. She also mentioned that he had four different tax identification numbers (TINs).
