DOH won’t send health workers to West Africa to help in anti-Ebola virus efforts

It’s great that we’re protecting our health workers, but what happens when we’re confronted by a case?

“The Department of Health (DOH) is not sending health workers to West Africa to help in the fight against Ebola,” reports Charina Clarrise L. Echaluce in Manila Bulletin.

The report noted: “This was disclosed by DOH spokesperson Lyndon Lee Suy who clarified that the agency did not make any promise to deploy Filipino health workers in Ebola-affected West African countries.”

Suy said, “There was really never a commitment from the Philippine government that we are going to deploy health workers to these countries.”

Suy added that the Philippines only “recognized” the call for the international community to provide assistance to West Africa.

In other words, we won’t be able to help them in the way they need. Let’s hope this decision doesn’t come back to haunt us.
