Divorce bill set to be refiled

We don’t know if this will ever see the light of day.

“You Against Corruption and Poverty (YACAP) party-list Rep. Carol Jayne Lopez is asking her colleagues not to slam the door shut on the Filipino-style divorce bill, expected be re-filed by Gabriela party-list lawmakers in May,” reports Charissa Luci in the Manila Bulletin.

Lopez was quoted as saying, “I co-authored the bill and I believe the issue on divorce should be brought before the public, discussed, studied upon, assessed, and analyzed. As a democratic society, we must allow everyone’s voice to be heard.”

Meanwhile, the report noted that Mandaluyong City Rep. Neptali Gonzales II earlier said Gabriela’s proposal would not prosper this 16th Congress. He described the divorce bill as “ungodly and a serious threat to the moral fiber of our society as it will ruin Filipino families.”
