This is a hard one to watch, especially for dog lovers.

Facebook user Marklin Cogo shared a distressing video over the weekend of a Golden Retriever attacking a stray dog outside the SM North Edsa mall in Quezon City. Cogo said in Filipino: “I was just passing by during my coffee break.. The owner couldn’t stop her dog..”

In the video posted on Friday, the Golden Retriever’s owner can be seen trying to stop the large-sized dog from biting the medium-sized stray dog. The Golden Retriever bites the other dog’s nape unforgivingly. The owner tries to slap her dog’s head to stop but to no avail.

A tricycle driver also tried to help by pulling the stray dog away with its tail, but the Golden Retriever’s grip on the stray was too powerful.

In the video, the stray’s whimpers are deafening. Blood can also be seen on the ground.

Other bystanders watched while some shouted to splash the animals with water. Cogo said in a Facebook comment that no one wanted to stop the dogs from fighting because they might get bitten.

Someone eventually poured water over the dogs while other citizens helped the owner pull the Golden Retriever away.

The video has received over 3 million views and over 41,000 shares. Netizens couldn’t help but feel sorry for the stray:

Rowena Garcia said she pitied the other dog.

Sonny Tamparong noted that Golden Retrievers’ temperament is usually friendly and found the incident odd. “But this one is strange!?” he said.

“She shouldn’t take care of a dog if she can’t stop it from fighting,” Jed Domingo stated.

Frederic Apostol echoed the sentiment by saying: ” If you can’t control your pet, don’t have a pet because you don’t know how to make your pet follow you.”
