Dinky won’t resign over 7,527 spoiled food packs for Yolanda survivors

She’s basically saying she won’t leave because it’s not her fault.

“Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Dinky” Soliman has no plans of quitting her post over the spoilage of some 7,527 food packs worth over PHP2 million intended for survivors of Typhoon Yolanda last year,” reports David Dizon on ABS-CBNnews.com.

The report said that the People Surge Movement, which is composed of Yolanda survivors, “has been calling for Soliman’s resignation. The group has also asked government to give PHP40,000 each to Yolanda victims.”

Speaking to reporters, Soliman explained that if she thought it was best for her to resign, then she would do it because she has done it before.

The report noted: “Soliman is a member of the ‘Hyatt 10’ group of officials who resigned their posts in 2005 following reports that President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo allegedly rigged the 2004 presidential election.”

It added that Soliman pointed out that she addressed the issue of the 7,527 spoiled food packs last December. She recalled that the food packs were placed on a barge from Cebu bound for Tacloban.

Due to bad weather and improper storage, Soliman said, the food packs got spoiled. She then said that “those responsible for the spoilage of the food packs will face investigation.”

Soliman, however, indicated that the spoiled food is only 0.17% of the 4 million food packs given out to Yolanda survivors.
