So, what now? He may be suspended but he has vowed not to leave the city hall.
“The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) served the suspension order of the Office of the Ombudsman against Makati Mayor Junjun Binay and his fellow city officials over the allegedly overpriced Makati City Hall Building II at around 8:20 a.m. on Monday, March 16,” report Aries Joseph Hegina and Julliane Love De Jesus on Inquirer.net.
DILG National Capital Region (NCR) Director Renato Brion brought the suspension order.
The report noted: “Brion, escorted by police, entered the left side of the City Hall unmolested before posting the suspension order at the entrance of the City Hall saying that ‘he was not allowed’ to go to Binay who had been holed up in his office since last Wednesday, March 11.”
Binay’s supporters chanted “Binay! Binay!” as the suspension order was posted on the city hall’s entrance. Brion then remarked that upon Binay’s suspension, Makati Vice Mayor Romulo “Kid” Peña will already serve as the city’s acting mayor.
Binay’s supporters reportedly “continued their chanting as they hounded Brion as the official walked back to his vehicle.”
