On May 16, Instagram made a shout out to Makati by way of Filipino IGer Rennell Salumbre’s post, pictured above. He caught the attention of the photo-sharing social media platform, quickly got in touch with him and featured him on the IG blog, which is where Coconuts Manila saw Salumbre’s photo.
On the IG blog, Salumbre (@rennell) described Makati as a place that hipsters would love. “Makati is a fun place to live in even at the busiest time of the day.” The 23-year-old freelance photographer lives on Evangelista Street, which he compares to Quezon City’s Maginhawa and Pasig’s Kapitolyo neighborhoods for having a huge potential for establishments.
Makati, he continues, has almost everything. Rennell loves the fact that you can meet a host of memorable people in the city.
He tells Coconuts Manila over email that the most interesting people he’s met in Makati are the group of barbers who call themselves the Slick Barbers Co. “They actually come from different cities in Metro Manila but they gather at Yague Street in Makati for a monthly haircut session that they call the Slick Sessions.”
A quick look at Rennell’s gallery should tell you this guy is an avid observer of the city. Thankfully, he’s also an avid IG user, who likes to participate in the conversation by way of hashtags — he uses #everydayphilippines and #everydayasia. Check out some of his photos below, and follow him, why don’t you? And while you’re at it, follow Coconuts Manila on IG, too!
