Did you lose your car? Check Facebook

Facebook, or The Facebook, was originally meant as a way for singles to hook up. The Manila Police District, though, is harnessing the power of social media to hook up stolen cars with their registered owners.

The MPD launched its Manila Carnapped Abandoned Recovered Vehicles (Manila CRAV) Facebook page on Monday. According to a photo posted on the page, a stolen Red Hyundai Getz emblazoned with the Coca-Cola logo has already been reunited with its owner.

Still waiting for their owners are 41 motorcycles, pictures of which have been posted on Manila CRAV.

According to an Inquirer report, using Facebook against car and motorcycle theft was implemented in Laguna province two years ago. Then provincial police director Senior Superintendent Gilpert Cruz, now with MPD, said thefts went down by half within six months.
