The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has been providing assistance to a Filipina overseas worker sentenced to death for killing her employer in the United Arab Emirates.

“The DFA, through the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi, has been assisting Jennifer Dalquez since January 2015 when we learned of her situation,” said DFA Undersecretary Jesus I. Yabes who heads the Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs (OUMWA).

The Al Ain Court of First Instance handed down the death sentence to Dalquez on May 20, 2015, for stabbing to death an Emirati employer who attempted to rape her.

“Among the services provided by DFA to Ms. Dalquez is the hiring of a lawyer to defend her during the trial,” Yabes said.

Yabes said personnel of the Philippine embassy in Abu Dhabi also visit her in jail to look into her personal needs and update her on developments concerning her case.

“The embassy will continue to closely monitor the case of Ms. Dalquez and extend all the appropriate assistance,” Yabes said.

According to Rajima Dalquez, her daughter was arrested on December 12, 2014. Her daughter had been working in the UAE since 2011. The OFW from General Santos City was supposed to return home last January.
