DepEd wants mandatory drug test for students, but no budget for it

It’s sad when minors, who don’t know any better, get hooked on illegal drugs.

To manage that problem, the Department of Education (DepEd) wants to implement a mandatory drug test for students from both public and private schools.

Great idea, so what are we waiting for?

According to DepEd Assistant Secretary Jesus Mateo, the test could cost an estimated PHP300 per student, and that’s money they don’t have right now.

So DepEd is knocking on Congress’ doors to include provisions for this in next year’s budget.

Until that time, they will be teaching students how to spot pushers, and say no when they are being offered illegal drugs.
