Let’s hope other branches of the agency also take a strong stand against bullying.

“The Department of Education (DepEd) Division of Taguig-Pateros on Wednesday, June 3, launched a Facebook page where victims of bullying in public and private elementary and high schools can report incidents. The name of the page is DepEd TaPat E-SABAC,” reports Mike Frialde on Philstar.com.

Dr. George Tizon, DepEd Taguig-Pateros administrator, explained that the name comes from their location. “Tapat” is a mash-up of Taguig and Pateros. “E-SABAC” means it’s the online or “electronic” version of the existing Students’ Anti-Bullying Action Center (SABAC) which the Taguig City government had earlier created to fight bullying in the city’s schools.

Tizon explained, “We have raised it into another level. We call it E-SABAC, because when we saw the statistics, our bullying cases actually, drastically dropped. For 2014, we only logged five bullying cases. We have a population of around 140, 000.”

Tizon acknowledged that “there was a need to expand the fight against bullying online as there had been cases of students being bullied online, mainly over social media.”
