The Department of Education (DEpEd) has decided to suspend classes for two more days in Nov due to the expected traffic congestion during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting that month. Heads of state of APEC’s 21 member-countries are expected to arrive in Manila.
“The Department of Education (DepEd) has declared the suspension of classes on November 17 and 20, 2015 for schools in Metro Manila,” reports Tessa Distor in Manila Bulletin.
Earlier, in anticipation of APEC traffic, Malacañang had already declared Nov 18 and 19 as non-working holidays via Proclamation No. 1072.
The report noted: “This means that on the third week of November, classes are suspended from November 17, 2015 (Tuesday) to November 20 (Friday).”
In any case, DepEd Director IV Luz Almeda sent a memo to all school heads saying, “In this connection, schools’ divisions are given the discretion to determine the schedule of make-up classes for the November 17 and 20 suspension of classes.”
