DepEd OKs tuition hike for 244 private schools

This is why you should think twice before having a child.

“The Department of Education (DepEd) announced that they’ve allowed at least 244 private elementary and high schools, including in Metro Manila and in Yolanda-devastated areas in Eastern Visayas, to increase their tuition rates for the coming school year,” reports Helen Flores in The Philippine Star.

The report noted: “Tuition rates in Metro Manila will increase by 8%, in Region 2 by 9.55% and 5.80% in Region 4B, DepEd said, adding it is still waiting for reports from other regions.”

DepEd assistant secretary Tonisito Umali was quoted as saying that “the additional fees would be used to raise teachers’ salaries and improve school facilities.”
