The Department of Education has hired 91 percent of the 61,510 new teachers it plans to hire for the year.
In a statement, DepEd attributed the quick recruitment and hiring of 55,848 teachers to a streamlining of the hiring process. By working with the Civil Service Commission and the Professional Regulation Commission, DepEd cut down hiring time to five months from eight months. Some positions were filled within three months.
The government has created 102,603 teaching positions since 2010 to meet a lack of teachers in public schools.
