“The Department of Labor and Employment reminded private establishments yesterday to pay the 13th month pay of their workers before Christmas or face possible sanctions,” reports Samuel Medenilla in Manila Bulletin.
Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz encouraged employers to do the 13th month payout in the coming days before the mandated deadline on Dec 24 to help their employees avoid the holiday rush. Employees who have worked for at least a full month are entitled to receive the pay, which is equivalent to their monthly basic pay.
Should employers fail to release the pay, employees can seek the intervention of DOLE, who can demand from the employers the benefits due to the workers.
