Be careful who your friends are, and be even more careful about who you karaoke with.
Singing karaoke is probably one of the Philippines’ favorite pastimes, but the joy can turn deadly real quick like it did for Bernardo Litana last night.
He was stabbed by his friend at a karaoke bar in Lucena City in southern Luzon. The suspect was only identified as “Junior” in a report by the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
Inquirer said that witnesses told police the suspect had a short argument outside of the bar with Litana.
They thought the argument had been settled because the two went back inside and continued singing.
But while the two were singing, Junior suddenly pulled out a knife and stabbed Litana in different parts of the body.
The victim died and the suspect was able to escape.
This incident is only the latest in a number of violent karaoke bar incidents in the Philippines.
In November, a man was stabbed and killed by his friend in Navotas City after the two fought over a song.
Passion for karaoke runs notoriously high in the Philippines. So much so that in 2010, Frank Sinatra’s My Way was banned from karaoke bars in the country after people were killed for singing out of tune.
