The scene of the crime was a stone’s throw away from the country’s seat of power.

“At around 8:05 a.m. on Monday, March 16, the body of a man was found near Malacañan Palace — beside Estero de San Miguel near P. Casal St. and the back of Geronimo Santiago Elementary School in San Miguel, Manila,” reports Jenny F. Manongdo in Tempo.

People passing by the area discovered the dead body and immediately called the police.

Police described the victim — who was wearing a green T-shirt and denim pants — as between 30 to 35 years old, with dark complexion, and about 5’10” tall.

The report noted: “Tucked inside the dead man’s waistband was an orange T-shirt with the words ‘Free all political prisoners.'”

According to Manila Police District homicide investigator PO2 Dennis N. Turla, “the victim had about seven bullet wounds and was killed in the same spot where his body was found.”
