It has been a whirlwind of personal and political attacks between Senator Leila De Lima and President Rodrigo Duterte, but finally, we’re getting somewhere.
On Fri, Aug 19, De Lima addressed Duterte’s allegations against her, saying there were “snippets of truth” in them.
Duterte revealed in one of his speeches that De Lima is in cahoots with her lover-slash-driver, who serves as her “bag boy” or the one who collects drug payments from syndicates and delivers the money to De Lima.
And yes, Duterte said De Lima has a relationship with her married driver.
While there are pieces that might be true, De Lima pointed out that “the bulk of [the accusations] are distortions, are exaggerations and lies,” she said in a CNN Philippines report.
She was referring to the accusations that her senatorial campaign fund came from the money collected from drug lords inside the New Bilibid Prison.
De Lima, who was the former secretary of the Department of Justice, has been following Duterte’s bloody war on drugs since he was the mayor of Davao City. She also supports the Senate probe on the series of drug-related killings in the country since Duterte’s inauguration last Jun 30.
