Delays, in this case, arouse people’s suspicions. It doesn’t matter if the reason is legit. People will think the worst and you can’t blame them for doing so.
“Justice Secretary Leila De Lima admits that the Department of Justice and National Bureau of Investigation have yet to complete the affidavit of Janet Lim-Napoles, the businesswoman accused of engineering the pork barrel scam,” reports News5 correspondent Marlene Alcaide on InterAksyon.com.
The reason? It’s because the DOJ and NBI personnel tasked with taking Napoles’ statement are only allowed a maximum of only two hours with her when they visit at the Ospital ng Makati.
Napoles remains confined at the said hospital after undergoing major surgery on April 23.
De Lima disclosed that they’re “considering alternatives of taking Napoles’ complete statement without needing to visit her often.” They may ask Napoles to write the affidavit herself and submit this to the DOJ and NBI.
De Lima once again clarified that the draft affidavit Napoles handed her during their five-hour meeting last April 21 “contained only a list of those the businesswoman claimed were also involved in the pork barrel scam and a few other pieces of information.”
