She is staying put.

It may be recalled that the leaders and members of Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) called for Justice Secretary Leila de Lima’s resignation because of her alleged special interest in the case filed by Isaias Samson Jr., an expelled INC minister.

“Samson had filed an illegal detention complaint before the Department of Justice (DOJ) against members of the Iglesia ni Cristo’s Sanggunian for allegedly harassing and illegally detaining him and his family,” reports Joseph Morong on GMA News Online.

The report noted: “The Iglesia ni Cristo alleged that De Lima was behind Samson’s filing of the criminal complaint.” They launched a protest movement that covered a vigil in front of the DOJ complex in Manila and EDSA. The protest movement ran from Aug 27 to the morning of Aug 31. De Lima denied the allegations against her, saying she was “only doing her job.”

In an ambush interview at her office on Tue morning, Sep 1, De Lima initially declined to issue any statement on the issue. Eventually, she agree to answer a few questions. Most of the queries were if she would be stepping down.

De Lima said, “Will I be here if I’m resigning? I’m back at work. There’s a lot of work to do after the holidays.”
