Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson Chief Supt. Dionardo Carlos said yesterday that Davao police officers will be reassigned to Caloocan after most of the city’s police personnel were relieved of their duties last week.
Caloocan’s entire police force will undergo retraining and will be reassigned to other posts in Metro Manila, an answer to the back to back killings of teenagers linked with police officers in the city.
Carlos said that the Davao police were tapped because PNP chief Ronald dela Rosa trusts the officers in that post.
“I think it’s trust and confidence of the chief PNP in Davao PNP because he knows how they work,” he said.
Carlos also assured that not everyone from the Davao police force will move to Caloocan.
“We will look at where the personnel will be coming from to fill up the manpower need of Davao. It looks like it won’t be the entire force, only the core members then officers that would assist the current OIC [Officer in Charge] in Caloocan PD” he said in English and Filipino.
On Monday, PNP Chief dela Rosa invited Davao police officers to volunteer to join the Caloocan force.
“Believe me, I really need you because I’ve seen the difference between Davao and Metro Manila police, particularly Caloocan,” he said during an awarding ceremony in Davao.
Dela Rosa was the Davao City police chief from 2012-2013, the same time Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte was vice mayor of the city and his daughter, Sara Duterte was mayor.
Last year, Duterte appointed dela Rosa as PNP chief.
