Davao City man arrested for ‘selling’ 16-year-old girl on WeChat

It’s unfortunate how technology is being exploited by criminals.

A man from Davao City is facing charges for pimping out a minor via the instant messaging application WeChat, SunStar Davao reports.

The suspect was arrested through an entrapment operation conducted by the police authorities at a motel along Ecoland Drive in Matina, Davao City. The suspect had tried to pimp out a 16-year-old girl to an undercover police officer for PHP3,000.

The Philippine National Police’s Anti-Cybercrime Group-Davao arrested the suspect after he received payment for the transaction, which included three marked PHP100 bills.

The suspect will be charged for violating the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2012 in relation to the the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act.

Prosecutor Mariza De Los Santos-Jaugan ordered the police officers to coordinate with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for the temporary custody of the victim.
