President Benigno Aquino III will not be having dinner with former Playboy playmate and animal rights advocate Pamela Anderson, much less talk about the fate of Mali, the elephant at the Manila Zoo.
Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said Mali’s fate has been referred to Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala. Besides, Anderson is, as they say, geographically undesirable.
“Pamela Anderson is in (Los Angeles) and the President is not going to LA anytime soon,” Lacierda said in a People’s Journal report.
Lacierda jokingly added Agriculture Secretary Alcala would probably be willing to meet with Anderson, though.
Animal rights advocates, including members of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, have been calling for Mali’s transfer to an elephant sanctuary in Thailand. They said her continued captivity puts her at risk of health problems and is cruel.
