Good news for motorists traveling to and from Cavite as the Muntinlupa-Cavite Expressway (MCX), formerly known as the Daang Hari-SLEX link road, officially opened on Fri, Jul 24.

The road is expected to reduce travel time by an average of 45 minutes from Daang Hari to Alabang Interchange as well as decongest traffic in Cavite, Las Piñas and Muntinlupa.

The project is also seen to provide a new access to the National Bilibid Prison property and improve the overall competitiveness of Calabarzon region as an investment destination.

It is the first public-private partnership (PPP) project to be bid out by the Aquino administration but it was delayed due to redesign and right-of-way issues.

The Ayala group, which won the project in December 2011, now has a 30-year concession.

For the first month of operations, the expressway will be toll-free to motorists, according to Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala, Ayala Corp.’s chairman and chief executive.

Toll rates for the four-lane, four-kilometer road are set at P17 for Class 1; P34 for Class 2 vehicles; and P51 for Class 3 vehicles.
