Customs seizes millions worth of gadgets from popular online shop

Happy days are over, techie friends who saved thousands of pesos by purchasing gadgets on Kim Store online shop.

The Bureau of Customs seized cellphones, laptops and other high-end gadgets worth millions of pesos during the raid of Kim Store’s warehouse in Lakandula Street, Tondo, Maynila.

Kim Store was allegedly engaged in selling smuggled items. The online store was a popular pick for gadgets like Macbooks, iPhones, Samsung phones, and Canon cameras

According to Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) Director Neil L. Estrella the owner might’ve used a misdeclaration scheme to avoid paying duties and taxes. The owner was believed to be a Filipino-Chinese from Binondo.

The staff in Kim Store’s depot failed to present the proper documents for the goods. The warehouse has been padlocked, and the items are now being guarded by Customs.

“BOC, under my watch, will often conduct raids in warehouses, storehouses, and depots, to combat the malpractice and related crimes, and finally jail perpetrators, once and for all,” said Customs Commissioner Nicanor E. Faeldon in a report by GMA News.
