Customs employee arrested for duping businesswoman

There are people who give government employees a bad name.

“On Thursday, August 14, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) operatives arrested Ethel Bernas, Bureau of Customs (BOC) officer at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, during an entrapment setup after she received PHP150,000 from businesswoman Elsa Balse,” reports Dennis Carcamo on Philstar.com.

The report said that Bernas told Balse to finance three containers of used clothes or “ukay-ukay” in the amount P400,000 per container. So, Balse invested more than PHP1.6 million, but no container was ever released by the suspect.

Balse then filed a complaint after Bernas demanded for an additional PHP155,000 from her.
