On Wed morning, May 20, police rushed to an apartelle in Barangay Kaunlaran in Cubao, Quezon City to try to pacify a man who had taken his own wife and their two children hostage.
The man, who was identified only as “Rey,” reportedly went berserk because he thought his wife — who was identified as Catherine Deduro, 28 — was flirting with the apartelle’s roomboy.
Witnesses said that Deduro denied Rey’s accusations, but he was already so mad that he hit her in the head. He then took their kids and told them that they couldn’t leave the unit they were in.
At this point, Deduro’s screams alarmed the neighbors, who then called the police.
Rey surrendered to the police after an hour. He is now facing charges for violating Republic Act No. 9262, which is otherwise known as Anti-Violence against Women and Their Children Act of 2004.
