Cop dies in school shooting

School violence happens here, too.

“At around 8:30am on Sunday, April 27, off-duty Senior Police Officer 1 Fernan Clemente was playing basketball near the St. Gabriel International School along Sandoval Avenue in Barangay Palatiw, Pasig,” reports Mike Frialde in The Philippine Star.

According to the report, the school’s security guards “had asked Clemente to help disarm and pacify Emerson Aries Go, reportedly the son of the school owner, after he arrived at the school in a taxicab and carrying a shotgun.”

When Clemente approached GO, the suspect allegedly opened fire with the shotgun. Clemente was rushed to the Pasig City General Hospital for emergency treatment, but he later died. Meanwhile, Go was subdued and arrested by other policemen.

The report revealed , though, that “investigators are also looking at the angle that a responding policeman might have also shot Clemente—who was in civilian attire—by mistake.”

Go refused to answer when investigators asked him why he was carrying a shotgun.
