The report doesn’t reveal the name of the hotel they went to — so naturally we’re curious about it.
“On Tuesday, January 27, Police Officer 3 Giles Imperial of the Manila Police District (MPD) Explosives and Ordnance Division and his companion, Theresa Watchanee de Jager, were briefly detained at the MPD’s general assignment section for failing to immediately settle their hotel bill, which reached nearly PHP100,000,” reports Aie Balagtas See in The Philippine Star.
Miguel Catacutan, the hotel’s front office manager, charged Imperial and De Jager with estafa.
According to Catacutan, the couple “stayed in the hotel for several days, occupying a room worth PHP9,395 per day until their bill hit PHP99,343.60.”
The report noted: “Catacutan said Imperial and De Jager were informed of the running bill on January 26 while they were in the hotel’s coffee shop. Imperial promised to settle the bill by 6 p.m. that day, but he failed to do so. As such, Catacutan called the police.”
However, in an interview with The Philippine Star, Imperial explained that he had “no intention to skip on the hotel bill.” He said in Filipino, “The money just got delayed. We have been released.”
