The Department of Transportation (DOTr) officially kicked off the construction for the Cavite extension of the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) in Parañaque City today. The additional 11.7-kilometer railway extension aims to connect the province of Cavite to Metro Manila through the LRT-1.
The LRT-1 currently has 20 stations spanning from Roosevelt in Quezon City to Baclaran in Pasay City.
The extension will feature eight new train stations: Redemptorist, Manila International Airport, Asia World, Ninoy Aquino, Dr. A. Santos, Las Piñas, Zapote, and lastly, the Niog station in Bacoor, Cavite.

According to the DOTr, five of the stations will be partially operational by the fourth quarter of 2021. It will be fully operational by 2023.
The DOTr said that once the extension project is completed, it will cut down travel time from Bacoor to Baclaran — usually over an hour today — to just 25 minutes.
The Cavite extension project will extend the LRT-1’s current length of 20.7 kilometers to 32.4 kilometers. The DOTr also said it would expand the LRT-1’s current ridership per day of 458,000 passengers to 800,000 passengers.
