What will politicians think of taxing more next? Underwear?
Ako Bicol Partylist Rep. Rodel Batocabe recently proposed the implementation of a 10- to 30-percent “vanity tax” on cosmetic products and procedures (such as liposuctions, facelifts, nose jobs, and breast augmentations) as an alternative to imposing additional tax on fuel products.
“Batocabe said that it would be better to impose a ‘vanity tax’ on those who want to look good, which, he said is a luxury,” reports Patricia Lourdes Viray on Philstar.com.
People have manifested violent reactions to Batocabe’s proposal. On Twitter, they used the hashtag #DontTaxMyBeauty.
