Congressman gets slammed for selfie with Pope

Was he epal or just excited?

“Ilocos Norte 1st District Rep. Rudy Fariñas—who was at the Vatican during the April 27 canonization of Pope John Paul II and Pope John XIII—earned the ire of the public after he took a selfie with Pope Francis,” reports ANC.

The report explained that “it was not so much what he did that some people criticized, it was how he did it.”

The report went on to reveal: “After the canonization mass, Pope Francis had approached a group of foreign dignitaries who had lined up to meet him. Fariñas had been beside Filipino Ambassador to the Holy See, Mercedes Tuason, when the Pope greeted them. Fariñas had been kneeling at first but he then got up and proceeded to take the selfie with Pope Francis even though it seemed he was blocking Tuason.”

For the record, the Pope didn’t seem to mind Fariñas’ move. But we do feel for Tuason.
