Commuters, brace yourselves: UV Express vehicles no longer allowed in EDSA

With the worsening traffic all over the metro, it seems like the daily hellish commute is almost impossible to solve.

Then, it got even worse (or so we think).

On Friday, Jun 29, the Land Transportation Franchise and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) announced through its Citizen Enforcer Facebook page that UV Express vehicles are no longer allowed in EDSA.

According to Memorandum Circular No. 2016-009 entitled “Amending Memorandum Circular No. 2009-019 (Re: GT (UV) Express Service Routes and Areas of Operation),” UV Express Services are no longer allowed “to traverse EDSA, except when crossing the same” thoroughfare to get to another secondary road or street.

This means our beloved UV Express vehicles are only allowed to drive on secondary streets, roads, or through zigzagging inside private subdivisions (we’ve all been there).

This scenario could go two ways: either we avoid the traffic of EDSA or we get stuck in narrower side-streets and secondary roads with dozens of other UV Express vehicles.

The memorandum took effect on Sat, Jul 30, 2016.
