What do Mao Zedong and the Communist Party of the Philippines have in common?
They both turn a year older today, among other things.
Authorities say the CPP usually stage attacks to celebrate a milestone.
“The military will remain on high alert to thwart any atrocities by communist rebels, as the Communist Part of the Philippines is celebrating their 45th anniversary today, Dec 26,” reports Alexis Romero in The Philippine Star.
The report went on to explain: “Officials earlier said the rebels usually commemorate the anniversary of the CPP by staging attacks courtesy of the group’s armed wing, the New People’s Army (NPA).”
In fact, as the report revealed, “the CPP said it would kick off its 45th anniversary celebration through flag-raising rites in areas that it claims to be ‘under the jurisdiction and authority of the organs of the people’s democratic government.'”
