Commission on Elections chief will stay after all

Commission on Elections chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr. will not be resigning after all, saying his threat to quit last week was brought on by emotion and frustration.

He said he has no reason to resign and will not be leaving the Comelec, “not at this stage.”

Brillantes, who was frustrated at a Supreme Court decision to restrain the Comelec from implementing a cap on airtime for political ads, hinted at quitting last week.

He said on a DZMM report on Monday, though, that he intends to finish his term. That term ends in February 2015.

With the 2013 midterm elections coming up next month, Brillantes said he will see things through. And then, he said in a Sun.Star Online report, “I’m going to think of having a short vacation.”
